ECO BABY – HAPPY BABY
Tracy at our office is expecting her first child. We are all so excited!! She’s got me thinking babies and I found some great things. TIPS you can use, items to buy, and to inspire a unique nursery to be eco friendly. More then ever we need to be conscientious about what we put into our babies rooms for their safety and environmental protection. There are terrific new releases of sustainable goods that are organic and eco friendly made just for babies. A growing GREEN economy supporting innovation and clinical studies for it is everywhere. Studies show that petroleum-based foam mattresses pose health risks, especially as foam breaks down over time and releases toxic formaldehyde gas. Companies like Sealy responded to parents concerns by introducing a Soybean Foam-Core Crib Mattress. Besides taking up landfill space, mattresses (e.g., foam mattresses) impact the environment adversely because they’re made from non-renewable fossil fuels. Our TIP is buy everything for your baby organic, sustainable, safe, and give yourself peace of mind. Don’t take chances with your children’s health and life. There are so many great companies online. Some of my favorites TIPS are at BabyEarth for eco-proofing ideas and environment-friendly baby gear advice.
WeeGoBaby, unveils more items with the same great design. They offer an eclectic range of products for your baby that are unique, and are committed to providing safe, sustainable and reliable products. Visit their store on Main Street in Santa Monica if you live in Los Angeles. These Glass Bottles are available at babyearth.com. WeeGo has taken eco and health-conscious glass bottles (bisphenol A, phthalate, PVC and polycarbonate-free!) and added a protective sleeve for safety purposes (cool design factor). Free of plastics and latex the sleeve and nipples are both non-toxic. The plastic ring, plug and cap contain no polycarbonates, are FDA-approved and recyclable. The store has furniture and accessories for your nursery, or simply get ideas from them to expand upon. Look for labels (BPA-free, certified lead free, etc.) to guide your eco-conscious purchases.
A happy baby will sleep through the night faster. Most importantly, don’t forget to use no VOC (volatile organic compounds) WALL PAINT for your baby’s room. I say no, rather then low. Indoor air is three times more polluted than outdoor air. According to the EPA, outgassing is considered one of the top 5 hazards to human health. Paints and finishes are among the leading causes. Outgassing chemicals from paint lingers for a year or more, the most common cause of allergies that also interferes with your baby’s oxygen intake. Extremely toxic and environmentally dangerous, there is no reason to buy any paint that is hazardous. Encourage everyone to boycott paint that isn’t GREEN. Baby’s are very scent sensitive. Refrain from wearing perfume around babies which can trigger a crying spell (some perfumes make me want to cry!) Organic lavender essential oil dabbed at the edge of your baby’s pillow (just a drop) will help them stay relaxed and sleep sweetly.
Send us your baby TIPS and share ours with others.
