I love Charm City Cakes. Though they don’t ship them (yet!), I know eventually they’ll cave due to demand, so keep working on them to deliver online orders. Meanwhile, there are other items offered making great gifts, or simply inspiration. See their new book of cakes (my faves are the kiddy ones), which gives a detailed glimpse with hundreds of photographs, illustrations, and collages into the world Duff created. I love that the book “shows how energy, inspiration, collaboration, and a bit of luck can conspire to help anyone achieve their creative vision.” Do browse their virtual tour (great example of a wonderful work environment), or order the Ace Of Cakes DVD and just fun things to have — like the Baby Onesie fashionista model Sophia wears. There are bright yellow young chefs aprons for kids also irresistible. It’s my firm conviction all kids should spend time cooking up a storm growing up. Learning about the magic of alchemy and food prepares us for future culinary appreciation and invaluable skills that come in handy anywhere in the world.
Why am I writing about cakes in our TIPS blog? Because my dad was one of the greatest chefs ever, he made the best cakes, and I couldn’t help myself when looking at these. Remembering him (hi Dad!), loving the remarkable aromas I grew up with wafting through our home (and those middle of the night raids on the fridge). His spirit hovering reminds me how much he would have loved this group of mad pastry chefs who give their all.
